Job Description

Schaeffler, a global automotive and industrial supplier, is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer - Heat Treat to support our Fort Mill, SC location. The position is responsible for process development and improvements in Heat Treat.

Key responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • The Heat Treat Engineer creates the overall capital expenditure budget by compiling requests from Engineering Manager, Plant Manager, Production team, Quality team, and Corporate Heat Treat team.  They generate capitalization plan based on project schedules and manage expenditures from inception to implementation.
  • Provide Engineering Leadership in support of heat treat process compliance; lead process control improvement & automation initiatives for all furnace processes throughout the facility.
  • Provide direct support to operations and maintenance functions as well as develop & coach resources to address existing needs and ongoing growth requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership in the development of new thermal process control strategies in support of business unit goals. Establish and ensure appropriate process control standards and specifications are being met for all operating furnaces.
  • Along with Engineering Technician and ISO accredited vendors, responsible for the execution and data analysis of all furnace temperature uniformity surveys, furnace tuning, system accuracy tests, gas analyses, and other CQI9 Related activities.
  • Travel domestic and internationally to support early project planning as needed
  • Authority for furnace safety.  Combines engineering knowledge and guidance from EHS & Corporate Heat Treat team to ensure a safe working environment for all existing and new machinery.
  • Is actively involved with heat treatment evaluation and examination. Assist with failure analysis and root cause determination as well as implement countermeasures.
  • Define and implement appropriate standards for technology and equipment to achieve production with the highest degree of efficiency, quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Provide continuous improvement of existing production processes in a lean manufacturing environment.
  • Develop heat treatment recipes for new products

Job Requirements

Qualified candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, or Materials Science
  • 5 years of experience in a Heat Treat or metals related engineering position
  • Must be self-directed and motivated and able to multi-task in a dynamic manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications (Powerpoint, Excel, Outlook) and a basic understanding of CAD
  • Must be able to pass a comprehensive pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Organizational and communication skills in English
  • Capable of walking, sitting and/or standing throughout an eight-hour day
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. from a floor or table position to chest high using a proper lifting technique. 
  • Ability to use arms, hands, and fingers to manipulate tools and parts. 
 
Preferred Requirements:
  • Experience in heat treat processes, CQI9, IATF 16949, AMS2750 Pyrometry
  • Capable of troubleshooting and supporting all heat treat processing throughout the organization based on actual field or engineering experience.
  • Follows established work practices and guidelines (i.e. policies, procedures, guidelines, instructions/techniques, safety practices).
  • Understanding of Metallurgy via education or practical experience
