Job Description

Schaeffler, a global automotive and industrial supplier, is seeking a Process Engineer for our Joplin, MO facility. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining process developments to improve product quality and productivity.  Multiple positions available – focus on Grinding or Heat Treat.  Please note that this position is not eligible for an expatriate assignment.
Key responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Document and request customer print changes.
  • Develop process improvements to increase machine efficiency.
  • Perform line balancing and cycle time studies to find process bottlenecks.
  • Communicate effectively with superiors, subordinates and customers.
  • Use scientific methods (e.g. DOE) to test new proposals.
  • Provide employee training to develop employee skills.
  • Co-ordinate process improvements.
  • Lead set-up reduction activities.
  • Lead workshops.
  • Responsible for new equipment launches.
  • Organize machine relocation & tooling optimization.
  • Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods.
  • Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
  • Confers with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
  • Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
  • Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
  • Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree (B. A. or B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering from four-year College or University; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Strong analytical skills-able to identify trends, opportunities, readily assumes ownership of plant operating plan and safety program, demonstrates commitment to Schaeffler values, demonstrates effectiveness at working across or leading across organizational groups and levels, works well under pressure, multiple priorities, good problem solving abilities, presentation skills, and demonstrates a sense of urgency in meeting customer expectations and delivering results.
