Job Description

Schaeffler, a global automotive and industrial supplier, is seeking a Production Leader (PL) for our Joplin, MO facility. The PL’s primary function is to ensure productivity, quality, cost, delivery and customer satisfaction goals are met or exceeded in their area of responsibility. As a general guide, a PL will have two to six Team Leaders (TLs) reporting to them. Supervision of TLs is the most critical aspect of the PL role. PL’s are responsible for all disciplinary actions for hourly associates reporting to TL’s. Technicians and Specialists typically report to the PL). A PL will have responsibility for between 50 and 70 employees.


Job Requirements




Primary Tasks:

•         Overall responsibility for quality, productivity, delivery performance and customer satisfaction

    o    Monitor KPIs for area and hold Team Leaders, Technicians & Specialists accountable

    o    Responsible for monitoring staffing levels ensuring proper labor complements and   adjusting accordingly

    o    Responsible for shift-to-shift communication and knowledge transfer regarding priority items, down time etc.

•         Responsible for leading TLs

    o    Create an atmosphere of trust and open communication with TLs

    o    Evaluate TL performance, provide feedback and coach TLs related to developmental process

•         Issue all disciplinary actions for hourly associates

•         Hold TLs accountable for maintaining a competent & skilled work group monitoring the following:

    o    New employees are trained and use approved training model/material

    o    Probationary period for new employees

    o    Employees receive refresher training/new procedures/new equipment etc.

    o    All training records and certifications are current 

•         Responsible for promoting safe work habits

    o  Hold each TL accountable for safety performance and safety awareness

•         Serve as liaison and participant in the value stream in area of responsibility

    o    Interface and build relationships with the value stream key contacts (e.g. suppliers, logistics, customers etc.)

    o    Monitor key figures relating to entire area (daily report, stock, residue, delivery performance)

    o    Ensure proper stock of parts (blanks, rollers, cages)

    o    Communicate potential bottlenecks to Segment Leader

•         Responsible for ensuring all quality standards are adhered to in area of responsibility

    o    Effectively communicate quality corrective actions and prevention procedures to appropriate areas 

    o    Ensure layered audits are conducted and employees are following SOPs/Work Procedures

    o    Support quality initiatives (FFQ)

    o    Ensure that TLs and their employees are quality certified and receive appropriate training

•         Support Engineering Initiatives such as:

    o   Product Launches & Project Management

    o    Commitment to Preventive Maintenance

•         Financial Management, Controls and Compliance

    o    Manage budget, adhere to all Compliance Standards and participate in all training

    o    Support Capital Investment Initiatives and decision making for capacity adjustments

•         Actively support and be engaged in continuous improvement initiatives

•         Promote & lead TLs in MOVE and CIP activities

•         Other duties as assigned by Supervisor
